Dear Student
I am pleased to be able to introduce you to TIS - Torquay
International School, one of the best known English Language
Schools in Britain. The school was founded in 1972 and I have
been here since 1977!
At TIS we all think that one of the things which makes our
school very special is that every day we work to make this
school the very best we can. We believe that the time a
student spends studying English with us is one of the most
important times in their life and that you, as a TIS student,
get the very best tuition and help we can give you. The school
is almost in the town centre and has 20 classrooms, internet
centre and many other resources plus beautiful gardens and a
volleyball court. We are British Council Accredited and a
member of ARELS.
Mary, our Director of Studies, ensures that each one of our
students is in the right class according to their level and
their needs. Whether you take a Cambridge exam, IELTS or TOEIC
classes, Academic Year, business communication skills or want
to study just for pleasure, Mary and her team of qualified
teachers will make sure you are in the right class.
Furthermore you can be sure there will not be too many other
Japanese students in this school. We normally have between 40
and 100 students and 20 to 30 nationalities. Class sizes are
small, - on average 6 to 9 per class and you can take 18 or 23
hours (60 minute hours) per week.
We believe in flexibility and understand that some students
might want to change their course or their class whilst they
are with us. This is usually possible, or you can just make a
short stay booking in the first place and then extend your
booking for a longer period. Mitsuba Associates will be
pleased to advise you on all the possibilities as they have
considerable experience in arranging language courses in
Britain.
Many students feel nervous about staying in a host family and
we make you a guarantee that if you are not happy, then we
will change the family for you. Jan, our Accommodation Manager
knows every single host family personally and inspects their
homes regularly to ensure that our students get the best
accommodation available. A happy homestay experience in
England is something you will remember all your life!
John Peter, the Social Manager arranges a wide variety of
excursions and activities to suit everyone. Half-day
activities are local but at weekends we go further to places
like Bath, Oxford, London, Cornwall and many other places. He
likes to make sure that students become involved in the social
life of the school and the surrounding area. He is always
ready to listen to your requests or suggestions.
Mitsuba Associates can give you a lot more detailed
information about TIS and about Torquay, one of Britain's most
beautiful and safe seaside towns. We do hope you will come and
join us.
With warm wishes
