English Language Courses at Cardiff University
We, the English Language Service for International Students, work in partnership with
Mitsuba Associates who assist our Japanese clients. We consider them to be effective and able to assist you in your application.
What is the English Language Service for International Students?
It is the official Cardiff University English language teaching centre for international students. It is permanently based at the university to provide English language courses for university students and staff, pre-university students, and the public. We offer full-time and part-time courses to anyone aged 18 or over.
What sort of courses are available?
Pre-University English - an integrated course in English for Academic and General Purposes.
The course is designed for:
people who plan to study at a university in the UK and;
people who want to improve their social or professional English and are not planning to attend university in the UK.
Pre-Sectional English - an intensive summer course designed for students who are going to study at Cardiff University.
The course is designed for:
people holding offers from or applying to Cardiff University at postgraduate or
undergraduate level / General English Summer courses
The course is designed for:
people who want to improve their social or professional English;
people who want to improve the English in preparation of joining the Pre-University English course or the International Foundation Programme in the following term.
What other services are available to me during my course?
The University is an official examinations centre for:
British Council International English Language Testing Service (IELTS); and
Trinity Board Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Plus:
assistance in applying to take public examinations;
University educational counselling service;
advice on postgraduate and undergraduate courses;
use of libraries, resources centres and computer workshops;
free e-mail and internet access;
access at student rates to sports and social facilities; and
use of University facilities, including accommodation when available.
The English Language Centre is also a member of the Learn English In Wales Association, sponsored by the British Council Wales and the Wales Tourist Board. It also belongs to the British Association of State English Teaching and the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes.
