Dear Student,
We, THE Cambridge CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES, work in partnership with
MITSUBA ASSOCIATES, who assist our Japanese clients. We consider them to be
effective and able to assist you in your application.
You might be pleased to hear that THE Cambridge CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES
is one of the best language centres in the United Kingdom, with a membership of top
quality checking organisations, EAQUALS, and ARELS.
THE LOCATION
SAWSTON HALL which accommodates THE Cambridge CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES, is an exceptionally beautiful Tudor manor house (with connections to
Queen Mary Tudor) and is set in 60 acres of superb gardens and grounds. While its
British heritage atmosphere is carefully preserved, the house is well equipped with all the
facilities of a modem language centre (18 classrooms, self-access library,
language laboratory, video facilities in each classroom, computer centre, information technology
(IT) centre, restaurant, bar, outdoor tennis courts, barbeque room, car park etc. etc.)
Extensive gardens, lawns and woods contain a moat, topiary, medieval fishponds, rare
trees and plants and some wildlife (variety of birds, rabbits, squirrels, Chinese deer, etc.)
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The centre of Cambridge in only 6 miles away and the regular bus service allows the
students an access to social and cultural activities of this famous university town. We
organise every week an interesting programme of social and sports activities like discos,
parties, barbeque nights, musical evenings, International Evenings, quiz
evenings, bingo evenings, bonfire nights, tennis tournaments, bingo nights etc. etc. for our students.
Every Saturday and Sunday there is a day excursion (optional) to a place of interest.
ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
We choose our host families with utmost care. They all live within 5-15 minutes' walk
from SAWSTON HALL and attend some of the parties and activities at school.
In general only one student is placed with a family. Families offer breakfast and evening
meal on weekdays and full board accommodation for weekends. Lunch is served in the
restaurant of SAWSTON HALL from Monday to Friday. We also offer high quality single room accommodation on campus (i.e. residential
accommodation). Students staying in our residential accommodation have all their meals
in the Restaurant, adjacent to the main building.
TEACHING RESOURCES
There is at SAWSTON HALL a Self-Access Library where students can do language
practice in their spare time, using the written exercise material, including the past exam
papers of Cambridge Examinations, TOEFL and IELTS. Apart from the Computer
Centre where 8 computers are loaded with ELT software, we now have a new Language
Laboratory as well as a new Information Technology (IT) Centre with 20 Internet-connected extra computers. Sending and receiving e-mails is free of charge. One of our
stately rooms is converted for the IT Centre and it is a most impressive addition to our
exiting resource facilities.
We very much hope that we may look forward to welcoming you to SAWSTON HAL to
attend one of our courses..
Yours sincerely,
(Dr.) A. Bayrak.
