Dear Student
"English tuition in the English countryside"
I would like to invite you to join us at the West Sussex
School of English for English Language Courses in an
attractive, peaceful historic town.
Steyning is full of charm, surrounded by pretty countryside.
The school is situated in the town centre and is just a short
walk from students' accommodation with host families. The
nearest large city is Brighton, about 16km away on the south
coast of England, which offers an exciting weekend and evening
destination for shopping, entertainment and the arts.
London is about 75 minutes away by train.
Our students enjoy being away from busy centres and other
language schools and are sincerely committed to their
academic progress. They have many opportunities to practise
their English with native speakers and to interact with the
local community. We share relaxed social occasions together
and enjoy weekly excursions to a variety of places.
Our aim is to ensure you benefit fully from your stay with us!
Because the school is small, you will become part of our
friendly, caring community. We take into account your personal
needs and the teachers make a special effort to support you in
lessons. At our busiest time in the Summer we only have up to
48 students in the school, and our classes have a maximum of 8
per group all year round. In the Autumn or Spring you will
probably be in a class with only 4 or 5 other students!
We like the fact that we have a good mix of nationalities and
cultural backgrounds. For example, in 2001 we had
approximately 10% Japanese students, 25% Italian, 16% Spanish,
16% French, 12% German speaking, and a few Chinese, Swedish
and other language groups. The mix changes regularly and is
affected a little by different holiday periods around the
world.
Our host families provide top quality accommodation and their
guests have daily opportunities to chat with their hosts and
experience English life directly.
The courses are designed to give you the best chance to
improve your English. We can offer you General English and
Examination preparation courses, a Summer Programme and
Courses for Academic, Business or other Specific Purposes, in
classes and for individuals.
